Strawberries and cream are part of the great British summer but are you getting the best from yours? As with most things in life, a little attention to detail can go a long way. To get the most flavour from your strawberries and cream, follow these few simple tips…
1. Serve at room temperature; cold numbs flavour.
2. Slice in half, or in quarters if large; lets the flavours develop.
3. Even if sweet, sprinkle with a little sugar and add a tiny squeeze of lemon; both will lift the flavours even further.
4. Leave to macerate for half an hour before serving with chilled double cream.
If you really want good strawberries, look out for local Blairgowrie strawberries from West Coast Foods. Scottish strawberries are probably the best in the world; if you can’t find any in the West Coast Foods online shop then please do get in touch and we will see what we can do.
