Homemade Cranberry Sauce

There are times when a few little homemade tweaks are all it takes to bring a meal to life and they do not come any easier than making your own cranberry sauce. Although the commercial stuff is readily available, and certainly good in its own right, fresh cranberries are also more readily available these days.

All you need is fresh cranberries, sugar and water. You could add chopped pears, orange zest, anything you like really, but the basic recipe (if you can call it that) is as follows.

Recipe for Home Made Cranberry Sauce

350g cranberries

100g sugar

100ml water

  1. Place all of the ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. Cook gently for about 10 minutes, until all the cranberries have burst, and then remove from the heat. Cranberries are full of pectin, the enzyme that sets jam, so it will thicken up quite rapidly as it cools.
  3. Keep in an airtight jar for a few days, using as needed.
